The Mercedes-Benz Tourismo RHD is now available with new coach seating manufactured by Travel Star Xtra (TSX). First presented in the Mercedes-Benz Travego at the IAA 2010, these seats are available in the upholstery designs Softline and Luxline.

The design of the new seats combines visual appeal with high practicality. The side panels, for example, are made of aluminium – a light, attractive, high-quality material. The seats also feature a large integrated rocker switch for smooth, one-touch lateral seat adjustment (aisle seats) and for changing the backrest angle. The armrest is elegantly shaped and boasts a large, ergonomic contact surface. It can be folded away using a patented, easy-to-use pivoting mechanism. The backrest and seat cushion have also been redesigned. The seat cushion is mounted on a suspension for the first time and can be easily removed for cleaning or repair.

The optional stitching for the new upholstery gives rise to a wide variety of colour, profile and material designs. This helps to create a more impressive visual impact and a more individualised interior. A modular system ensures that the variety of choice is virtually unlimited. Developers have designed fold-down cinema-style seats and pivoting seats for use in both regular-service buses and coaches. A more upright backrest angle in its starting position makes it easier for passengers to stand up. A new development for all seats is the aisle-side position of the seat belt buckles. This simplifies operation for window-seat passengers and improves access for emergency services in the event of an accident. The seat frame is a light-weight aluminium dual-tube construction. In conjunction with a patented mounting for the gas-operated springs, this prevents irritating seat movement when the vehicle is empty. The use of light materials significantly reduces the weight of each double seat. In a 12 metre coach (three star version), this weight reduction totals around 70 kg.
