In 1928 the idea of special protection was born at Daimler, where it was drafted from sketches and then produced using precise finishing by hand. The first saloon with special protection was created. As a pioneer amongst car manufacturers Mercedes-Benz Guard is able to certify the safety of these vehicles.
Eight decades of meticulous materials testing and systematic development then followed, with Mercedes-Benz enjoying a unique position in special protection for decades. Legendary vehicles such as the Mercedes Nürburg made their mark both on safety standards and the design of entire generations of state limousines.
Around 50 years ago an intensive collaboration between German authorities and Mercedes-Benz began which contributed significantly to developing new technical approaches. As the only German car manufacturer at that time who could build armoured vehicles ex factory, Mercedes-Benz Saloons enjoyed high prestige with many governments all over the world, as it continues to do today.
