Mercedes-Benz aims to build cars that generate zero emissions. We are coming closer and closer to achieving this goal. Over a hundred prototypes of the B-Class F-CELL have already clocked up more than 3.6 million kilometres worldwide.
This innovative drive requires no mineral fuels such as petroleum or diesel. The energy is generated from a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. The result is that only steam is emitted from the exhaust pipe. 2010 will see the first vehicles handed over to customers, and within a few years the series-production version of the B-Class F-CELL should be rolling off the production line. Mercedes-Benz is also collaborating with a host of power utilities as well as government to obtain large quantities of hydrogen from renewable energy sources such as the sun, wind or biomass over the long term, thus ensuring that tomorrow’s emission-free motoring will soon become a reality today.
