The petrol engines for the GL set benchmarks
8-cylinder petrol engines
- Compelling performance: the GL 450 4MATIC has an output of 250 kW and maximum torque of 460 newton metres; the GL 500 4MATIC achieves 285 kW at maximum torque of 530 newton metres.
- Intelligent manufacturing: the reasons for the high output - yet low consumption and emissions - include the use of lightweight materials such as magnesium, which is also used in motorsport; the optimised air supply; and the fact there are four valves per cylinder.
- Outstanding engineering: the aluminium and forged steel lightweight construction operates with special shifting camshafts, which optimise the gas cycles in the engine, thereby giving greater smoothness and higher torque.
- Reduced emissions: both petrol engines comply with the Euro 5 consumption and emission limit values.
