Is it possible to change gear without noticing it or feeling the dip in engine output? It is with the 7-speed automatic transmission fitted as standard by Mercedes-Benz. The GL is equipped with 7G-TRONIC PLUS ex factory, which turns the power of the engine into total refinement. It provides the right gear ratio for every driving situation.

7G-TRONIC PLUS 7-speed automatic transmission

The consumption and efficiency-optimised 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission features a compellingly lowered fuel consumption, extremely gentle gearshifts and a reduced noise level.

  • Optimum engine speed: the result - lower fuel consumption and virtually imperceptible gearshifts.
  • Powerful torque: multiple downshifting allows for quick bursts of speed.
  • A new generation of torque converter: increased useful life, further reduction in noise levels and a more dynamic response thanks to innovative transmission technology.
  • Comfortable or sporty: by means of a switch in the centre console the driver can pre-select one of two drive programmes: "S" (Sport) or "M" (Manual). The "M" transmission mode, in conjunction with the steering wheel shift paddles which come as standard, facilitates even faster gearshifts.
