The optimised standard-specification 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission with DIRECT SELECT steering-wheel gearshift buttons makes driving the M-Class even more comfortable. The transmission can identify when you take bends, drive uphill or downhill and adapt the gearshifts to your driving style. The M-Class responds more sensitively to a calm driving style and more dynamically to a sporty driving style.

Gears are selected using the selector lever behind the steering wheel. To shift up or down manually, simply tap the steering-wheel gearshift buttons.
