R-Class: All-wheel drive

Building a generously dimensioned car is one thing. But combining legendary standards of comfort with driving stability is not something very many manage at this level. The R-Class achieves this with an entire range of innovative technologies.

In the R 350 CDI, R 350 BlueTEC, R 350 and R 500 the drive torque is distributed to the front and rear axles at a ratio of 50:50 thanks to 4MATIC. In conjunction with the Electronic Traction System 4ETS and Electronic Stability Program ESP®, 4MATIC improves tyre grip and traction.

  • Outstanding handling: particularly on unstable roads, wet surfaces and snow, the all-wheel drive provides better roadholding which in turn enhances safety.
  • Direct-Steer system as standard: the Direct-Steer system provides a steering ratio that becomes more direct as the steering angle increases, and it reduces the required steering for very large angles, for example when parking or in very tight curves.
