BlueTEC is cutting-edge SCR diesel technology from Mercedes-Benz. In the Vario it ensures that the Euro V emissions standard is complied with in an economical and ecologically convincing manner.
This technology has been successfully established in Mercedes-Benz trucks since 2005. And now the Vario is also able to benefit from SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) exhaust gas aftertreatment which reduces NOX emissions from the high-displacement diesel engines by feeding the exhaust gases through a catalytic converter, where they are mixed with the water-based additive AdBlue®. During this process, nitrogen oxides are turned into nitrogen and water. The result is compliance with the stringent Euro V emissions standard.
In everyday use the only indication that you have BlueTEC, one of the most advanced exhaust gas technologies, on board is the separate filling neck for the AdBlue® additive. It is situated in the direct vicinity of the fuel filling neck, and while the diesel fuel flows into the tank, AdBlue® additive is poured into the SCR tank – no extra time being required for this. Its 18-litre volume ensures that AdBlue® only has to be added about every third time the tank is filled up with diesel.
