Electric initiative picks up further steam.

"With the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQA, our electric initiative is gathering pace: By 2022, Mercedes-Benz Cars will have more than ten all-electric vehicles on the market".

Dr Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

The electric athlete is equipped with an electric motor on the front and one on the rear axle with a system output of over 200 kW. The handling characteristics can be modified by means of a front-biased or rear-biased torque split of the permanent all-wheel drive. The Concept EQA signals which driving mode was selected with its unique virtual grille.

Range of around 400 kilometres.

In combination with the intelligent operating strategy of Mercedes-Benz, the Concept EQA achieves a range of around 400 kilometres, depending on the installed battery capacity. The high-efficiency lithium-ion battery with pouch cells is supplied by the Daimler subsidiary Deutsche ACCUMOTIVE.

Thanks to the modular design, the innovative battery systems have a model-specific total capacity of more than 60 kWh. The Concept EQA can be charged by induction or on a wallbox charger, and is also ready for quick-charging. "Seamless charging" is the vision for charging at public charging stations: This Mercedes me-based service enables straight-forward charging and payment at a wide range of different charging stations.

Design idiom of Sensual Purity.

At the same time, the Concept EQA is yet another example of the systematic evolution of the design idiom of Sensual Purity: creases as well as lines are significantly reduced. One example of the new electric aesthetics is the lighting technology using laser fibres. It involves a laser-active medium embedded at the centre of a fibre optic wire. The striking spiral-shaped light signature represents the electrically powered principle by reminding onlookers of copper coils in electric motors while simultaneously visualising electrical impulses as part of the animation.

The two driving modes "Sport" and "Sport Plus" provide different torque splits between front and rear, and thereby permit selecting individual handling characteristics. The 'black panel' surface at the front acts as a virtual grille and changes its appearance depending on the driving mode. In "Sport" driving mode, the grille displays a glowing wing in horizontal orientation, while it shows vertical struts in the style of a Panamericana grille in "Sport Plus" mode.

EQ: new e-mobility brand.

EQ: new e-mobility brand.

EQ offers a comprehensive ecosystem of electric mobility with products, services, technologies, and innovations. The spectrum ranges from electric vehicles and charging services to energy storage units for the home. The name EQ stands for "electric intelligence" and is derived from the Mercedes-Benz brand values "emotion and intelligence". The new brand comprises all essential aspects related to customer-centric electric mobility, and goes beyond the vehicle itself.

The future models embody the essence of modern electric mobility – the combination of emotionally appealing and intelligent design, extraordinary driving fun, high daily practicality, and maximum safety that distinguish all vehicles from the inventor of the automobile. The first production model of the EQ product brand, the EQC, will be built at the Mercedes-Benz Bremen Plant starting in 2019. It is based on the Concept EQ on display last year in Paris.

At a quick-charging station, the Concept EQA can be charged sufficiently in less than 10 minutes to provide a range of 100 km. In addition to the in-house development and production expertise and the modular strategy for alternative powertrains, the philosophy of Mercedes-Benz Group AG also includes securing direct access to the key technologies for electric mobility.

Mercedes World: Concept EQA

Mercedes-Benz offers an extensive charging infrastructure for electrified vehicles today, which includes the free "Charge&Pay" app for convenient recharging at public stations, as well as stationary energy storage units for home-owners and companies to store electricity from photovoltaic or solar systems. Thanks to intuitive charging management and the intelligent charging station search, the electricity supply will become even more convenient in future. With the Mercedes-me-based charging, the customer remains in the Mercedes-Benz ecosystem for electric mobility and receives all services from a single source.

Intelligently networked charging solutions are an integral part of the electric mobility initiative of Mercedes-Benz Cars, because customer acceptance in the field of electric mobility is closely tied to the availability of comprehensive infrastructure . For this reason, Mercedes-Benz Group AG has also taken on the role of lead investor in ChargePoint Inc., the American charging solutions provider, in spring 2017. The aim of this strategic investment is to significantly expand the product range in the area of intelligent charging solutions and to provide customers with a comprehensive premium e-mobility offer.
